This privacy notice covers interactions you may have with the Credit Union Foundation and sets out how we will collect, process and hold your data.
Who we are
The Credit Union Foundation is an organisation dedicated to improving the lives of the people of the UK through supporting the development and operation of strong credit unions and promoting awareness of them among the general public.
The Credit Union Foundation primarily delivers on this ambition through:
- Developing and providing educational initiatives to individuals working or volunteering in credit unions to improve their ability to serve their communities even better
- Providing grants and support directly to credit unions to allow them to extend the reach of their services
- Providing opportunities for individuals working or volunteering in credit unions to access learning opportunities through other credit union sectors
The Credit Union Foundation serves the entire credit union sector and its members and potential members and is governed by a Board of Trustees chaired by Lord Roy Kennedy of Southwark.

How does the organisation protect data?
Our supporters, volunteers and contributors to our Save and Sound oral history and heritage project are all important to us and we are committed to keeping your data safe and protecting our users’ privacy. The Credit Union Foundation has internal policies and controls in place to try to ensure that your data is not lost, accidentally destroyed, misused, or disclosed, and is not accessed except by its employees in the performance of their duties.
Where The Credit Union Foundation engages third parties to process personal data on its behalf, they do so on the basis of written instructions, are under a duty of confidentiality and are obliged to implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to ensure the security of data.
The Credit Union Foundation requires any information marked as mandatory to either meet legal obligations or to enable us to provide permitted services to you. Where you are not able to provide us with this information, we may not be able to provide access to certain services or updates. Where we request further information about you not required for these reasons, we will ask you for your consent.
Information we collect about you
The Credit Union Foundation collects and processes a range of information. This could include:
- Your name, address and contact details, including email address and telephone number
- In general, information you give us when you fill in forms, subscribe to our services, (such as publications, sponsorship, or to attend events) and email newsletters.
- When you apply to volunteer with us, contribute to our Save and Sound oral history and heritage project, and including to process applications and to monitor recruitment statistics.
- To manage feedback and complaints.
- Information we hold about you to support our fundraising operations.
How we use your information
We may use your information in our legitimate interests to support our charitable work, or where we contact you by electronic means, with your consent, to:
- Process any donations you make
- Obtain contributions to our Save and Sound oral history and heritage project
- Send you information about the Credit Union Foundation and its work and how you can support us
- Build a picture of our supporters and help identify other similar potential donors
How your data is shared
Our principle supplier for the Credit Union Foundation website is Higher Logic. Higher Logic is based in the United States and is a participant of the EU-US privacy shield which safeguards data rights provided under GDPR. Your information may be shared internally, including with members finance team (for processing expenses), IT staff if access to the data is necessary for performance of their roles.
The Credit Union Foundation will not share your data with third parties without your consent.
For how long do we keep data?
- We will hold your contact details and preferences for as long as you consent to receiving news letters
- We will not hold data for longer than it is necessary for the purposes it was obtained.
